2nd Kings Chapter 18
A Good King Is Hard To Find.
Kings would come and Kings would go. It was very rare to find a king that would serve the Lord with all their heart. But finally, King Hezekiah began to reign and it says he trusted in the Lord and that there were none like him among the kings. His commitment was more than just lip service. It was real. He put his faith into practice and as king, he immediately began to “clean house” by tearing down all the false gods the people were worshiping. He clung to the Lord and did not depart from following God’s command.
God’s Temple in Jerusalem was the place the people were commanded to come and worship and also to make sacrifices on the altar. But the people did not want to go and so would build their own altars for sacrifices. King Hezekiah tore down their altars and said to follow God’s command.
We too are commanded to go to a place of fellowship and worship, regularly, so we can grow, be encouraged in our faith, and be used to encourage others in their faith (Hebrews 10:24-25).
Christians are not attending church like they used to. As King Hezekiah tore down the man-made altars, may God tear down whatever excuses that are keeping us from faithfully fellowshipping within the church with other believers.
May God help us rise above what is holding us back and become like King Hezekiah, a rare blessing to those around us and so you and your family may also be Blessed.
