Psalms Chapter 86.
Help! I Need Your Mercy!
The psalmist cries out to God saying, “Hear my prayer Lord. I am poor and needy. I want mercy.”
We all have our “valley” moments where we hit very low times of our lives. It’s those days we cry out to God asking for mercy. When we ask for God’s mercy, what are we really asking for? What is our motives? If we ask for mercy out of selfish motives, what we are really saying to God is, “God, help me and answer my prayer my way so it benefits my desires in my immediate circumstances.” But what if God’s mercy went beyond our selfish, immediate, self gratifying circumstances? What if God’s mercy was actually STRENGTH to endure low moments of our lives so God could accomplish His purpose for something that will occur much later in our lives. What if God’s mercy was actually PERSEVERANCE through difficult circumstances as a way of equipping us for a mission opportunity so someone’s life will be impacted for the kingdom, thus bringing glory to God? What if God’s mercy was actually God giving us PATIENCE so we could receive a blessing that awaits us which goes well beyond any plan that our selfish, self gratifying motives could have ever prayed for or thought of? Perhaps when we pray for mercy, we should say, “God, give me your mercy so that your plan is accomplished for your glory versus my plan for my selfish desires.” Be glorified God!
