Psalms Chapter 52
Evil Is Evil No Matter How Pretty You Paint It.
The psalmist speaks of those who boast about their evil and do so all day long. The psalmist also gives a warning that God will allow this to go on for only so long before he brings down the evil and causes the righteous to rise in victory.
Can someone really find that much delight in doing evil? I worked in the inner city for 8 weeks and on lunch break I’d eat where some men hung out in the ghetto area. I remember this big guy bragging of evil things he did. We see Evil all around us and sometimes it’s hard to believe that people are okay with it. We have politicians who are corrupt and take no shame in it. We have people destroying property, burning buildings, stealing, beating one another, and they do all this while justifying their own behavior.
It’s easy to look down on such individuals but in reality we may not be that much different. We just might be better at hiding our sin while justifying it.
We don’t beat someone to death but we HATE someone so much we wish they were dead. We justify our hate by declaring how rotten the other person is while painting ourselves at being so righteous while our hearts are far from God.
It’s the same as stealing. In California, especially, people ransack stores and leave stealing several items. “That’s evil”, we say. But we work for a company that makes salad dressing and we steal a couple bottles often and take them home. Yeah we justify our stealing as okay.
Evil is evil, sin is sin, no matter how pretty we paint it. God hates all sin and he’ll let it go on for only so long and then eventually one will have to give an account for their decisions. Eventually God’s righteousness will arise to Victory. May we all take a close look at our hearts and make sure we aren’t justifying sin just like the “real sinners” do.
