2 Timothy Chapter 4
Does God Really Want Us to Correct, Rebuke, and Encourage Others?
Paul gives Timothy this charge: “Preach The Word.” In fact, Timothy is instructed to Correct, Rebuke, and Encourage others with great patience and careful instruction. In other words, with love.
As believers in Christ, we should be concerned about the body of Christ and be willing to be used by God to help correct, rebuke, and encourage others. Not in a way of judging and condemning them, but in a way of helping them to be restored into a right and loving relationship with our Lord.
Rebuking someone is often very difficult to do, but we are instructed to do it. Again, it is to be done in love and with great patience and careful instruction.
We all need encouragement with our faith walk. We should all have that one Christian friendship that we give permission to ask us tough questions about our faith walk with Christ. It’s very easy to get sidetracked from our faith walk. We need that person who will lovingly Correct, Rebuke, and Encourage us. We should also be that for others.
However, we should not be the type of person who gets upset when someone challenges our faith walk. Yes, it may hurt, but it’s what is needed. We should be thankful that someone loves us enough to be willing to correct, rebuke, or encourage us in love.
Are you willing to love someone enough to correct, rebuke, and encourage them? Are you willing to open your heart to others so they could do the same for you when needed?
