Where Is The Fear Of The Lord?
David took 30,000 chosen men to retrieve the Ark of God from Abinadab’s House in order to bring it back to Jerusalem. The Ark of God was known as God’s dwelling place. The ark was put on a new cart and was pulled by oxen. In their journey, the cart was upset and caused the ark to move. Uzzah, Abinadab’s son, reached out and touched the ark which angered God and caused Uzzah to die.
David was angered by Uzzah’s death and feared God. But it was David’s fault for Uzzah’s death because God had instructed how the ark was to be transported and they disobeyed God. Only the priests were to move it and were to do so in a special way so that no one would touch the ark. God said if anyone touched it they would die but David did not obey God’s instructions.
In our Christian walk it’s easy to become lackadaisical with our faith. We know God and His truth but eventually we begin to not have a respectful fear for him. Over time we become arrogant and conclude that God won’t care if we are not holy in the decisions we make because of how “special” we perceive ourselves. We cannot let the fear of God escape us like it did David. It was only when the fear of God returned to David that he was able to see the errors of his way and return to Holiness and Obedience to the Lord God. Have you lost a respectful fear for the Lord? Have you become lackadaisical with your faith walk? Has Holiness and Obedience become a foreign word to you? May we all return to the Lord with a respectful fear of God followed by Holiness and Obedience to his Word!
