2 Samuel Chapter 14
Don’t Wait Till It’s Too Late!
In the previous chapter we see how David was sad and angered by his one son, Absalom, killing his other son Amnon.
So Absalom fled to another city for fear of what would happen to him. It was 5 years before David finally agreed to see Absalom. When David saw him he kissed him.
You would almost feel like they had forgiveness and reconciliation, but sadly after 5 years of not doing anything, Absalom grew in bitterness and hatredness for his dad, and despised him.
When family members have a fallout in their relationships, you can’t let it go unsettled. Both members have to agree to be reconciled. Some broken families go unsettled clear to the grave. I’ve seen such bitterness and unforgiveness justified by family members. I’ve seen one member die and the other member be filled with guilt. Sadly I’ve seen it where the son could care less that his dad died.
If you are in a broken relationship, may I give you some advice:
1. Don’t justify your hate and unforgiveness! The level of unforgiveness you show towards someone is the level of unforgiveness God will show you.
2. Pursue reconciliation, and don’t wait for the other person to act first.
3. If they accept the call for reconciliation then Praise the Lord. If they don’t, at least you will be clean before the Lord and you will not be held accountable.
4. Never give up hope!
