2 Kings Chapter 22
It Was A “Coincidence.”
Josiah became king at age 8 and he did right in the eyes of the Lord. When he was 16 he was inspired to have repairs done to the temple so he told the high priest to take the money that was stored in the temple and give it to the workers who do the repairs. As the high priest was gathering all the money, he found the Book Of The Law. When it was read to the king, the king tore his clothes in fear of the Lord for the law said if God’s people did not obey him he would bring a curse and disaster upon them.
A prophetess came to the leadership and said that God’s wrath would come upon the nation because they did not walk in the ways of the Lord. But, the prophetess said the king would die in peace before the curse came because he tore his clothes in humility and in fear of the Lord.
Two things from this chapter:
1. It was no coincidence that the high priest found the Book of the Law. I can remember times setting out to do a certain task only to pop into someone that ended up being a blessing. Coincidences are often God’s inspiration during routine actions.
2. The King was 16 years old when all this happened. May the teenagers of our day realize how God can use them today. They are not too young for God to use them to inspire others for the Lord. And for us older people, may we be equally encouraged for God is still wanting to use us to help point people to Jesus.
