2 Kings Chapter 14
The Prideful Are Eventually Humbled!
The King of Judah, Amaziah, defeated some of his enemies. Rather than be content with his victory, pride filled his heart and he decided to go into battle against Israel. The king of israel, Jehoash, said you’ve become prideful. Enjoy your previous victory over Edom and stay home. If you come into battle, you will be humbled in defeat. But King Amaziah would not listen and ended up being defeated and then later killed by his own people.
Pride elevates oneself above others, including God. Pride, if not stopped, will develop into feelings of, “I’m indestructible” or “I can’t be beat,” or “I’m better than everyone.”
Such an attitude will always eventually be humbled by God as he did King Amaziah.
Look around yourself. What’s your attitude towards those you come in contact with – your peers, your school authority or boss at work, your coworkers, your teammates, your family members, even your enemies?
Once pride settles into our hearts, we immediately elevate ourselves above others. At that point it’s very difficult to love and serve others when we think we’re above them. Let us maintain humility, then our hearts will always be open and willing to love and serve others, including our enemies.
