2 Corinthians Chapter 7
How Dare You Confront Me!
Chapter 6 ended with two promises. If we choose a holy life with the Lord he will receive us.
1. He will become a Father to us, and
2. We will become sons and daughters to him.
Verse 1 of chapter 7 says, “Therefore, since we have these promises, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.”
Paul had such love and affection for the Corinthians that he wrote them a letter confronting them of their sins. It brought them great sorrow, but it resulted in them getting back with the Lord. Paul’s open and honest conversation with them is what they needed to get back with God.
Sometimes, with our brothers and sisters in the Lord, we need to have an open and honest conversation with them if they’re not currently walking with the Lord. It’s easy to get distracted because of our busy lives, discouragements in life, frustrations, or whatever. If this happens to me, then I need someone who loves and cares for me to come alongside me and lovingly confront my fallen heart for the Lord. It may hurt but it will get me refocused and back where I need to be. We will need a heart that is open for constructive criticism with our faith walk. May we never get so stubborn that we neglect the words of the Lord through our friends in Christ.
