2 Chronicles Chapter 10
You Call That Respect?
After King Solomon’s death, his son Rehoboam was made King and he lived in Judah. The people of Israel came to him and said, don’t treat us as harshly as your dad did. If you treat us with RESPECT we will serve you. So King Rehoboam sought the council of the elders and the council of the friends he grew up with. The elders told him to treat Israel with RESPECT: Be KIND and PLEASE them. And also to SPEAK GOOD WORDS to them. They said if you do that the people will follow and serve you.
But King Rehoboam’s friends said, tell them you will treat them more harshly than your father. So when the king informed Israel what he would do, they rebelled and said we will not serve you. In fact, when the king sent a man down to enforce harsh labor they stoned the man to death.
CHALLENGE:
1. Go out of your way today to be kind and please someone with your actions. Do so by meeting their needs, and be willing to go the extra mile.
2. Also, go out of your way today to speak good words to someone. Point out their positive traits. We live in a world today where people are depressed and lacking self-confidence. They don’t need to hear negative words. I’m sure they already hear it.
Let your actions and words build others up and trust me they will love and respect you for it.
