1st Timothy Chapter 3
Do You Meet The Qualifications?
Paul compliments those who desire to be an overseer or elder within the church body. He lists several qualifications but I’m going to mention only a few. Such qualifications are similar for those wishing to assist in ministries of the church (male and female).
1. Be above reproach. Paul’s not implying one is to be perfect but their heart is so desiring the Lord that they are not easily swayed into temptations. They understand the use of self-control.
2. One is faithful to their spouse. This includes how they act around others of the opposite sex. One needs to be careful of their flirtatious behaviors along with how they communicate through social media.
3. Have conquered anger issues so as not to be easily drawn into quarrels.
4. Not lovers of money. Money is important and is a necessity for survival in our world today but one should not be consumed by it so that it becomes their god. It’s easy to become so consumed by it that it results in influencing decisions that we make that end up hurting our relationship with our family and with God. Thus we forget that God is our provider. There’s a fine line, so be careful.
5. Be able to manage one’s family. If you can’t manage a family, you can’t manage a church or church ministry. This shows me the value of putting your family as your number one Ministry.
I pray that we can all be above reproach and meet these qualifications as servants of the Lord Jesus!
