1st Samuel Chapter 25
Blessed are the Peacemakers.
David showed great kindness to the rich man, Nabal, and all his servants by sending 10 of his men to protect them from evil while Nabal and his servants sheared the sheep. When the 10 men went to Nabal asking for food to eat, Nabal was rude and arrogant and scorned the 10 men. When hearing about this, David responded with great anger and was ready to seek revenge by killing Nabal and all his men. When Nabal’s wife, Abigail, heard what happened and that David was going to seek revenge, she responded by preparing a lot of food and loading it on some donkeys, and then met David on the road. She was the peacemaker between David and Nabal and pleaded for forgiveness for her “worthless” husband’s actions and complimented David a lot. David and his men accepted the food and David chose not to seek revenge because of Abigail’s kindness. When Abigail told Nabal what happened he had a heart attack, and died 10 days later. Then David remembered Abigail and her loving kindness and asked her to become his wife and she accepted.
There will always be some kind of conflict that crosses our paths. You’re either going to be the Arrogant One, the HOT HEAD, or The PEACEMAKER. Which are you? Are you the arrogant one who thinks things should be your way. Or are just plain rude to others?
Or are you the Hot Head? When someone is rude to you, you want to fight or seek revenge or retaliation?
Or perhaps you are the peacemaker? Trying to see how the conflict can be shut down without anyone getting hurt.
Matthew 5:9 says, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”
Romans 12:18 says, “Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone.”
