1st Samuel Chapter 2
Let’s Give God Our Whole Heart.
After Hannah dedicated her 3-year-old son to the Lord at the temple, she sang a song of Thanksgiving to the Lord. She greatly exalted and honored the Lord recognizing him as the one and only true God.
How do we honor and recognize the one and only true God? Are we ashamed to acknowledge him before others? Do we give him any praise or thanksgiving?
The priest, El, had two sons who were called “beleyah” – the Hebrew word meaning “worthless.” God declares he will take their lives because of how they dishonored God, their father Eli, the sacrifices made to God, and the wickedness they showed the people making sacrifices. They did not give God any of their heart. Even Eli the priest was rebuked for not offering the best meat to the Lord but saving it for himself. Are we honoring the Lord with our whole heart? Are we giving him our best or are we trying to hang on to the best and give God the leftovers?
For example, our time is very valuable. But do we give God limited time in the word, OR in church? Do we spend our time doing what we want and then give him what little time we have left, if any?
What about our gifts? Are we busy using our gifts for our pleasure and for our benefit? Or do we recognize God as the gift giver and allow him to use our gifts for his glory and for the kingdom of heaven?
May we all be careful! Let’s make sure we give God our whole heart in all areas of our lives!
