1st Samuel Chapter 15
Obeying God Is Better Than Any Amount Of Money We Could Put In The Offering Plate.
Samuel the prophet comes to King Saul and tells him he is to go into battle against the Amalekites because of all the evil they did to the Israelites. God instructed Saul to put to death every living human being and every living animal of the Amalekites.
But Saul ended up letting their King live, then he kept all the healthy looking animals.
Samuel confronted Saul for his disobedience, and twice Saul attempts to justify his sin by lying and saying he was only going to keep the animals so they could sacrifice them to God. It was only when Samuel said that God regrets making Saul King and it’s going to remove him as king, that Saul then confessed his sins because Saul did not want to lose his kingship.
Samuel told Saul that it is better to obey God than making sacrifices. Then he confirmed again that he would indeed lose his kingship.
What can we learn from this? What has God called you to do? Are you doing it? What sin has he confronted you on? Are you trying to make excuses and justify your sin? Remember, it is always better to obey God versus doing anything else. Increasing your church attendance or putting an extra dollar in the offering plate does not all of a sudden make God happy because of your disobedience. If disobedience is not dealt with, then you are living in sin and God will not bless you. Repent and get right with the Lord today.
