1st Kings Chapter 6
Am I Building A Kingdom For Me Or For God?
King Solomon started building a temple for the Lord and it took him 7 years to complete it. It was about a hundred feet by 35 ft and had three stories. God provided abundance of workers with great gifts and skills to build a magnificent Temple. It’s amazing what can be accomplished through God’s people. But God reminded Israel not to lose focus on what’s really important. He instructed them to continue to love him and obey his commands.
God is giving us all gifts, skills, and abilities. He wants us to be the best that we can be for him. God wants to use us to build his kingdom. We can never lose focus of keeping Christ number one. As God uses us, we can’t start thinking how great we are and how gifted we are. We must remember that God is the gift giver and he wants to use these gifts for his glory and for his kingdom. And once we lose focus of that, then we begin to build a kingdom for ourselves. We like it when people recognize how great we are. We like it when people recognize our gifts rather than recognize God who is the gift giver.
God, help me to never lose focus on why I’m here. Help me be a kingdom builder for you and not myself! Help me point people to Jesus the Savior rather than to me a servant.
