1st Kings Chapter 22
Truth versus Deception.
King Ahab wanted so badly to go into battle against the King of Aram to regain land taken from him. He asked King of Judah to assist him in this battle and the King of Judah said first inquire of the Lord. King Ahab inquired 400 of his prophets on what to do but God allowed the 400 prophets to speak deception for he was not with them. They all said go into battle and you will win.
But the King of Judah sensed their words were not truth and asked for another prophet. Reluctantly, King Ahab asked Micaiah to prophesy. Micaiah said don’t go into battle for you will lose. King Ahab hated Micaiah and put him in prison and said, you will eat bread and water until I return home safely from Battle. Micaiah begged them not to go and said you may not even return.
Sure enough, King Ahab was defeated and killed.
When we have a decision to make, make sure we:
1. Inquire the Lord. Go to God first and seek his truth.
2. Be humbled enough to accept his truth and his leading even if it means going against a selfish dream you have.
3. Accept God’s leading despite what all your peers are saying.
A girl in our youth group started to date this real nice boy from our youth group. But as the relationship grew, he made it clear that he didn’t really want to pursue a relationship with the Lord. But she did and she respectfully accepted his views and said she was going to break up with him because she wanted to date somebody with the same spiritual convictions. As a result the boy became angry with her and he and his friends sent her several mean notes and messages and called her nasty names.
There are times we will have to choose who we will follow and obey. We get to choose between God or the thoughts of those in the world that appear to be truthful. Don’t let the world deceive you but choose God every time despite the consequences.
