1st Kings Chapter 18
Who Is The One True God?
King Ahab continued to disobey God and continued to follow the false god, Baal. So God called Elijah to challenge Israel to see who is the one true God: Baal or God the Creator? So the 450 prophet’s of Baal and Elijah each set up an altar of wood, with an oxen on it. Then, whichever god/God consumed the altar of sacrifice was then the one true God. The prophets of Baal called out all morning and afternoon but nothing happened.
Then Elijah consumed his offering with water, then called upon God who then consumed his offering with fire, burning everything.
Then Israel knew God was the one and only true God.
For many many years, the people of Israel invested all their hearts and time into the false god of Baal. For years they were deceived into believing that Baal was the best thing for their lives. But on a given day, God made it known that he is the one and only true God.
Today, we don’t make Baal our god, but it’s amazing what things or people we do make our god.
What are you personally investing your heart and time into so that eventually it has decreased your growing relationship with the Lord?
Is it your job? Is it sports? Is it friends? Is it social media? It could even be positive things that have eventually replaced your growing relationship with the Lord.
Lord, help us all to keep you in the center of all we do, and in all our relationships. Help us to not replace you with anything or anyone. Amen!
