1st Kings Chapter 11
Self-control Versus Being Controlled.
If we lack self-control from temptations, then we set ourselves up to be controlled by sin.
King Solomon did not listen to the Lord God when he said do not marry women from other nations because they will turn your heart away from the Lord in order to serve their gods.
But Solomon didn’t have self control and he let his passion for foreign women control him. He married 700 wives from other nations and he was no longer devoted to the Lord God.
This angered the Lord and he warned Solomon twice to repent but he did not obey God. So God gave a consequence to Solomon which affected his kingship and affected his sons after him.
What about us? God is given to us the Bible, his love story, so that we can have a growing relationship with him. But the devil puts temptations before us and we get to choose:
1. To have SELF CONTROL and turn away from the temptations, or
2. Give into the temptations and be CONTROLLED by them.
What temptations are you truly struggling with? God is reaching out to help you have victory over sin. Do not turn your hearts away from him. Consequences await us which often affect not just us but loved ones around us.
