1st Corinthians Chapter 14
What Can I Do That Would Build You Up?
Paul speaks again about spiritual gifts and reminds us that the gifts God has given us are to be used for the edification of the church. I think this is a profound statement and fear it is overlooked often by the church. I fear church becomes a “come and go” place where you can sit quietly in your pew, hear a nice sermon, go home, and do it again the following week. But there is so much more!
The church and its members need each other. We are all gifted by the Holy Spirit, which is also amazing to think about, and God wants to use our gifts so people can be encouraged and build up in their faith walk.
People are struggling always. It’s easy to wonder when it will ever end!?! People are hurting. When we go through the doors of the church we should be asking God how he wants to use us in the church. At the least, we should make ourselves available to be used somehow to touch someone’s life at church. It would be great to pray, “God, who can I speak with today so I can be an encouragement to them?”
