Genesis Chapter 35
Do Whatever You Have To So You Can Be Holy Before God.
God is ready to have Jacob and his people travel to a new location. He calls them to a place so Jacob can build an altar before God and meet with him. God also wants to meet with us, daily!
How do we meet with God who is Holy and Pure? Jacob’s people were instructed to give up everything that was unholy. Is that our desire? Is there ANYTHING we are holding on to that God would want us to let go of? He loves us and wants us to come as we are, a sinner, so he can make us clean, pure, and holy. Don’t let sin put a wedge between you and God and your relationship. Let him make you pure and holy. He doesn’t want to just forgive you of sin but also wants to help you repent from sin. He wants to help you look more and more like Jesus.
What are you holding on to? Lust for someone else? Lust for power. Lust for money. Lust for control. Lust for popularity. Are there behaviors that Satan has influenced you to hang on to while God is saying, “Surrender these behaviors to me and let me help you change.”
Are there addictions, anger, disrespect, unforgiveness, hatredness, etc.?
Pray to God and ask if there’s anything he would want you to surrender to him so you can be holy. If need be, share these areas of concerns with a close friend so he or she can help encourage you to change!
