1 Timothy Chapter 5
Where’s Your Respect?
This chapter gives a lesson on respect. We are instructed to treat older men and women as if they are our parents.
We’re instructed to treat younger men and women as if they are our siblings. We are to do so with absolute purity. That means our attitude needs to be right. How do we treat others? With respect? Or are we quick to present a bad attitude? Is it our way or the highway? Check yourself!
We’re also instructed to take care of widows who are in need. First, they are to be taken care of by their children or grandchildren. In fact, it says that anyone who refuses to take care of their relatives, especially their own household, have denied their faith and are worse than an unbeliever.
I’m not proud to say I have failed in this area over the last 30 years. My wife, Karin, is a role model to me in this area. I pray I can be a role model to others in showing respect to those around me, especially my own household.
CHALLENGE: Let’s Pray God opens the door for us the show respect today to:
1. A family member, or
2. Someone he puts in our path.
