1 Samuel Chapter 21
I Can Tell A Lie Just As Good As Anyone Else.
David is literally fleeing for his life and twice he is in a position where he is filled with fear and lies because of what he thinks will be done to him.
1. When before the priest, he lies about why he has no food and weapons and deceives the priest in giving him food and a sword.
2. When before King Achish, an enemy of David’s people, he acts like an insane mad man so that they don’t think he is David and kill him.
What about us? When we are in trouble and when fear comes up on us, what lies do we make up?
When I was 6 years old, I was at my grandma’s house with 5 other siblings and cousins. Grandma let us watch TV. She was doing work outside and instructed us not to play with the TV control which she hid. When we saw it on top of the grandfather clock, I stepped on a fabric covered stool and got the TV control down and we played with it. But put it back before Grandma came in for lunch. She saw my footprint on the fabric covered stool and wondered whose footprint it was. Everyone was quick to point their finger at me. Because grandma was so strict and mean, I feared I was going to be spanked and lied to her. I demanded that it was not me.
What lies have you told out of fear? Be careful! To justify such acts only makes telling lies all the more easier next time. It can easily become a pattern. Confess your lies to the Lord and then stop making them.
