1 Samuel Chapter 12
Are We Chasing After FUTILE Things?
Samuel the prophet addresses all of Israel and declares his faithfulness to the Lord and encourages them to be faithful as well. He reminds them how they rejected God as their King because they wanted a human King instead. He ended by saying do not chase after FUTILE things.
The Hebrew word for FUTILE is “tohuw.” It means to pursue that which is empty or formless. it represents all that is negative and contrary to God and all he has to offer. What God has to offer is life, even Eternal Life. A life of order and meaning. To chase that which is FUTILE is to chase after that which does nothing for our spiritual development but rather tears it down.
So where is your heart? Are you chasing after all God has for you? Are you committed to his ways and his Truth? Is fellowship with God and his people important to you? Or are you chasing after that which is FUTILE? It does nothing to help your spiritual development. Let today be the day you evaluate your heart and let God show you if there is any FUTILE act or thought within you.
